"Hello,
I am currently teaching at the California Institute for Human Science. =
I
have just introduced the first course offered at the Institute on =
Expressive
Therapy. It was such a success that the Dean wished me to inquire about
creating a Master's Degree in EXTH. Are there any requirements or =
criteria
of acceptance for such a program? . . .I am excited, as I am sure you =
are as
well, at the new possibilities to exposing students of San Diego to the
Expressive Arts Therapies.
Sincerely,
Darren Testani, PhD"

"Hi,
I am an expressive therapist and chair the Arts Commission in Richmond
California. Funding for the arts is being cut dramatically across the
country. In California they are looking for new ways to put out the =
value
of the arts. I have talked with Margo Cowen and Paul Minicucci about
expressive therapy and asked them to contact you. I am also requesting =
that
you contact them and perhaps the arts councils in other states with some
information and statistics that will help them in their struggles.
Thank you.
Sydney Metrick, PhD
Certified Expressive Therapist(r)
California Arts Council"

"I will be doing my year-long trainings in San Diego, California and
Portland, Oregon starting in January, 2003. =
www.expressiveartstraining.com
It will be my 18th year (Chai Year) of leading NETA trainings!
Thanks,
Jane (Goldberg)"

Expressive therapy and expressive arts therapy are extraordinarily =
effective
in facilitating emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being.
Legitimate, qualified practitioners and trainers are Certified by The
National Expressive Therapy Association(r) or Board of Examiners. =
(Note: If
you are looking for a therapist or an instructional program, and they do =
not
clearly state that they are Certified or accredited - or at least
"approved," you should naturally proceed with a great deal of caution.)

"There are those jobs - psychology and nursing are two examples - in =
which
professional accreditation is more important than regional =
accreditation."
Bear's Guide to Earning Non-Traditional College Degrees

The National Expressive Therapy Association(r) has begun providing the
possibility of formal accreditation for programs in expressive therapy,
expressive arts therapy and related specializations. It is in the =
process of
applying to various government agencies, so that such accreditation will =
be
fully recognized and become the basis for student loans as well as =
licensing
and employment.

Accreditation will occur in stages. The first stage has to do with =
getting the
program listed. The second stage has to do with gaining approval for the
program. The third stage has to do with accreditation proper.

Getting the program listed is a relatively simple matter. It involves
supplying the Association with the necessary basic information.

Evaluation in general may take into account any or all of the following
factors:
a.. Each course offered and the outcomes to which it may be applicable =

b.. Each relevant degree or other credential conferred along with the
  minimum requirements=20
c.. Methods for enrolling students and criteria for acceptance or
  rejection=20
d.. Faculty members and their credentials=20
e.. Types of instructional materials provided and methods of
  distribution=20
  f.. Tuition and refund policies=20
g.. New and planned instructional materials
Gaining approval for the program involves a period of time leading up to =
it
characterized by getting to know the program involved. (Note: The
Association will not consider as candidates for approval programs or =
schools
whose major faculty members are not Certified Members and whose students =
are
not Student Members of their professional association.)

Accreditation proper involves the establishment of a professional
relationship of considerable duration, characterized by the ability to
cooperate effectively.

CNN recently aired a report which stated that social workers, even those =
with a=20
Master's in Social Work and a state license, earn an average of =
approximately=20
$32,000 per year. Fortunately, as a result of the unique kind of =
training they tend to=20
receive, and for professionals the community they belong to, an =
independent,=20
entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in many expressive therapists =
and expressive=20
arts therapists.

Nevertheless, we want to do our part for the holidays, especially =
without a lot of=20
hullabaloo. For those qualified, we are pleased to be able to offer 40% =
discounts=20
on most fees. (Please note that only the following fees are involved.)
  a.. Full Association Membership (regularly $185.00) $111.00 =20
  b.. Lifetime Full Association Membership (regularly $1,400.00) $840.00 =
=20
  c.. Associate Association Membership (regularly $95.00) $57.00 =20
  d.. Student Association Membership (regularly $50.00) $30.00 =20
  e.. Certification in Expressive Therapy (regularly $580.00) $348.00 =20
f.. Certification in Expressive Arts Therapy (regularly $480.00) =
$288.00 =20
  g.. Lifetime Institute Membership/Diplomate Status (regularly $940.00) =
$564.00
All we ask is that all applications for Certification plus application =
fees
be submitted by December 1, 2002, and that all other payments be =
submitted
no later than December 15, 2002, so that the remaining steps can be
completed by the absolute deadline of December 31, 2002!

Checks should be made payable to NETA, and mailed to: Expressive =
Therapy, PO
Box 1715, Greenwood Lake, NY 10925. (Checks mailed to the National =
Institute
at 1164 Bishop St, Suite 124, Honolulu, HI 96813, or to our =
administrative
offices at 220 West 19th St, Suite 2A, New York, NY 10011, will take =
longer
to process and record.)
